Welcome to The Yorkshire Heraldry Society Web
site.
Originating from an evening class on
heraldry in 1970 the Leeds Heraldry Society changed its name to The
Yorkshire Heraldry Society in 1987 to attract a wider
membership.
We are still a small society with around
40 members and would very much welcome new blood. Membership costs £8 per
annum and our meetings cover a range of topics often of general interest
with an heraldic theme (such as the history of pub signs) to the history
of specific Coats of Arms.
Please scroll through the list of
lectures over the years. I would be surprised if there is not something of
interest to you.
We have half a dozen members who have
a wide ranging knowledge of heraldry (we would welcome more!) but the
majority of us are just content to listen and learn as we go. Most of us
have joined the Society through an interest in an associated subject.
Perhaps the most relevant is genealogy. - If you would like to find an
armigerous ancestor perhaps the Society can help.
We now produce a newsletter called the Owlet for
members so please do not feel you cannot join if you live away from
Yorkshire or the UK. We also publish a journal called Aspects of Heraldry
once a year which has a rich variety of subjects. Back issues are
available if you are bitten by the bug.
We would be pleased to hear from you or
better still receive an application from you to join our friendly band
(see links for appropriate pages)
